V1 –I was down, discouraged,
I didn’t feel good, I was sad
It had been a long, long time since I felt that bad
I said “What’s going on?” – everything was cool, I got justice, so I got peace
Peace was the least of my worries
Love trumped hate, my bus was not late
I even got to work on time, I got the money that was mine
( THUNDER, then…) – I was livin close to my roots
There was nobody could shake me loose
I was in the place, my true face, I could
Trace my blood back to the outback of my
Down home, good time front porch family

CH 1 –I can see eternity
When I set my mind free
I can go to any place
I can even look at your beautiful face

V2 – I finally had it, all of a sudden something went wrong
It was good so long then I slipped, dippin, slidin,
Why then did I fail to catch the
Holy grail, no check in the mail
No best friend to bail me I fell on my
Face, fell from grace
I wasn’t in the race, lost my good place
(THUNDER) –
My courage faded away, away, with the light of day
No matter how I tried through all the tears and years I cried from the hurt inside
Then you came and you held me and
I realize you had something in your shirt pocket that stuck into me
And at the same time you were stepping
On my foot, and I realized I was late…
